This week had me mulling on the expensive mistake of good faith again; how those of us in purpose-driven work assume everyone’s operating from a shared baseline of decency.

I’m a catastrophiser. My life motto is “shit can always get worse,” which sounds bleak until you realise it’s just pattern recognition with peripheral vision. Over the recent years, I’ve learnt from navigating boardrooms, corporate tables and politicians that we’re not just bad at assuming good faith. We’re catastrophically bad at imagining how low some people will go when their comfort depends on it.
